Small cap stocks is a term that describes stocks that are used for publicly traded companies with a relatively small market capitalization (roughly around $250 million or less). The term and definition of small cap stocks can vary from one brokerage firm to another, but generally the term small cap describes a company with a market capitalization of around $250 million and $2 billion.
For the most part, the vast majority of U.S. Stocks fall under this category, but they still only make up only a small portion of the total stock market value.
